Butlins win 2 Mumsnet awards!

Last night, myself and some of the Butlins team ventured into the big smoke of London town to the Mumsnet Family Friendly Awards 2014.

As some of you may know, in 2013 we were very honoured to be awarded their Gold Award for being a super family-friendly company, and this year we were hoping for the same!

So, we’re absolutely delighted to say that we have struck gold once again in 2014 – and not only that, but we have also scooped one of the Mumsnet Family Friendly Innovation Awards as well.

It’s fantastic to be recognised by both Mumsnet and its members as being a family friendly brand and we hope that if you’ve been to Butlins before you’ll agree.

Mumsnet say: “The Family Friendly programme aims to make Britain the best place to raise a family, and to help companies and brands understand the needs of modern families, so that they can go the extra mile to make families’ lives easier. The awards recognise companies that are prepared to work hard to ensure that they can offer the best service and facilities for families and consistently meeting the set criteria.”

We were in very esteemed company again this year – other companies up for gongs included Barclays, Matalan, Metro Bank, McDonald’s and Unilever.

To participate in the Family Friendly Awards scheme, we had to go through both an internal and external review. The internal review includes looking at our HR policies, training, facilities and how we communicate our family-friendly policies to our team, as well as a team survey.

The external review involves Mumsnet members doing some “secret shopping” (or secret holidaying!) to find out how family friendly Butlins is. The secret holidaymakers looked at our customer service, facilities, marketing and value for money of their break.

All of the results are then collated and scored in order to decide whether if we’ve won bronze, silver or gold – and it was the latter, for the second year in a row. Hooray!

The ceremony was a fancy affair, hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, and was held at Admiralty House on Whitehall. There were canapés and bubbly, and the opportunity to talk to – and learn from – other brands who clearly put families at the forefront of their work as much as we do.

Being given the Gold award again was amazing – so to win one of the Innovation Awards truly was the icing on the cake.

There are two Innovation awards: one for an ‘external’ family friendly product/scheme which is seen by guests and customers, and a second award for an ‘internal’ idea which is aimed at a companies team and staff.

It was our Just For Tots breaks which won us the external Innovation Award. As many of you will have experienced, the Just For Tots breaks were added to the Butlins calendar this year as sought to offer breaks that were totally tailored to families with children aged five and under. To win this award is tremendous affirmation for us that we have got things right so far – but we’ll be continuing to work on our Just For Tots  breaks so that they totally meet the needs of families. All in all, it was a great evening and one which helps us to know that as we aim to make Butlins as family friendly as we can for both our guests and our team, the feedback we have had from Mumsnet, its members and our own team helps us to ensure we continue to do just that.
