A Day In The Life of… A Butlins Butler

Here at Butlins Bognor Regis I have the fabulous job of being an Ocean Hotel Butlins Butler! For those of you that have never visited our Ocean Hotel, my job is to meet you when you arrive, assist you with your luggage and make sure you and your family have the best break possible.

The Ocean Hotel is a lovely place to work as many of our guests come here to pamper themselves during their break! It’s home to the Ocean Spa and has a lovely café/bar and restaurant with a terrace, which is a perfect sun-trap in nice weather with glorious views across the resort. It’s not just for grown-ups though as the children’s dens have full size twin beds along with a TV with Freeview and a DVD player so they can have their own mini adventure! Its great to see families rediscover their sparkle whilst they are here with us.

There is never a dull day when working in the Ocean Hotel and my favorite part is helping our guests to build a bespoke activity plan for their stay. Firstly, I take our guests on a guided tour around the resort, educating them on our rich heritage and sharing my knowledge and experience with them so they can quickly know their way around.

I’ll tell them all they need to know about the entertainment, our great food and drink and the wealth of activities we have to offer.

Afterwards, I sit with the guests and find out what each member of the family likes and come up with a plan so they are sure to catch the activities and entertainment that they will love. I also spend some time with the grown-ups getting them booked in to the great restaurants we have on resort. My favorite is Turners!

I love spending time with the guests and getting to know the families that come and stay. Over the years I have made some great friends and see many returning guests come back, excited for the activities and entertainment we have on offer. One of our returning guests even asked me to do a speech for their wedding anniversary!

Our pink top hat and tails and our vintage bell trolleys are a big attraction for the Ocean Hotel guests with a lot of them asking us for selfies! They are great outfits to make us stand out and help our guests identify us if they need any help. I have even been noticed by many of the photographers that come on resort and recently appeared on BBC’s Songs Of Praise!

All of our Butlins Butlers are proud to go the extra mile when it comes to our guests. We all love the interaction and the opportunity to make the break as great as it can possibly be for our guest.
