Having worked for Butlin’s for almost ten years, what has kept me hooked is the problem-solving approach we’re all encouraged to take to delight our guests. So, I was over the moon when asked to help redesign the Shoreline Hotel rooms at our Bognor Regis resort.
This was my chance to apply mine and my husband’s practical experience of staying at Butlin’s with our son, Eddy, over the last three or so years.
Ever since we dedicated our Shoreline Hotel to families with younger children, we’ve seen what a difference it can make to the overall Butlin’s experience. I can personally testify that it helps to know that everyone around you is literally ‘in the same boat’ – and for me, that’s even more relaxing (and reassuring) than a trip to a spa!
Naturally, anyone with early risers will know how important the accommodation experience is during any family break away. After all, you spend a lot of time in your room…. daytime naps, early nights etc. That’s why a team of us set out to create a new Shoreline room interior that not only young children would love, but that made parents’ lives easier too.
We took our design inspiration from the sea. We didn’t have far to look: the Shoreline hotel gets its name from its position on resort (where Butlin’s meets the Bognor Regis seaside promenade). And the smart Art-deco shape of the hotel itself; mimicking a cruise-liner, proudly pointing out to sea.
We wanted to make the hotel feel a bit like stepping on board a ship, with the bedrooms feeling a little more like family-friendly cabins. We stopped short of renaming it the ‘Shoreliner’ though (but it works…don’t you think?!).
Anyhow, here’s what we’ve been busy remodelling (we’d love to know what you think)….
Our new corridor carpets are decorated with boards, rigging and pools of fish, so your little ones can hop, skip and jump their way to their cabin! (And coming later this year, ‘walk the plank’ lifts – stay tuned to this blog for the first pictures).
Inside you’ll find nautical details to make you all smile. Like our giant Captain’s Helm play panel (a big winner for me with an ever inquisitive three year old), complete with a ship steering wheel, radar dials and gear knobs designed to satisfy the ‘fiddliest’ of fingers (you never know, it could buy us a couple of extra minutes dozing in bed!).
Our new funny-face pirate curtains should raise a smile too. When pulled across the kid’s bunk area, they don’t just block out the light for a good night’s sleep, but they provide the perfect pirate photo opportunity too!
All of the furniture has rounded corners, so you don’t need to worry about bumped heads. We’ve included a comfortable school of fish rug to play on and an octopus inspired sofa and snuggly pouffe. All perfectly placed to make the most of the view out of your floor-to-ceiling doors and windows.
At bedtime, your children will love clambering aboard their cabin bunks. You’ll find a built in bed guard on the top bunk and a Northern Lights inspired night-light to help little ones wind down and sleep.
For grown-ups you’ll enjoy a comfortable king-size bed or twin beds in the main bedroom area. And, to ensure a good night’s sleep, all new beds benefit from our new Emperor mattresses, made exclusively for Butlin’s. In fact, if you love them as much as we do, you can purchase your own directly from our manufacturer.
Even more practical stuff (if you’re a lover of detail); every room has a family bathroom with shower over the bath, dual function toilet seat, child’s step, travel toiletries and a folding shower screen for easier bedtime baths.
Plus plenty of clothes storage, a fridge (with a little ‘down the hatch’ graphic on the front – we couldn’t help ourselves!), a safe, hairdryer and iron and ironing board.
You’ll also find a TV in the main bedroom/sofa area, as well as a smaller TV in the children’s room. Both have the popular Freeview digital channels and are compatible with your own USB devices (be sure to bring your own connections).
If you’re interested to know how much a stay in one of our new Shoreline hotel rooms will be, you’ll find them listed as ‘New Style Shoreline Hotel Room (King or Twin)’ on www.butlins.com. All Shoreline hotel rooms sleep two adults, two children (plus an infant in a cot), with choices of partial sea-views and patio (ground-floor, with direct access out into Billy’s Play Garden).
And, if you’ve already stayed at the Shoreline hotel, you may be wondering what the plans are for our stunning panoramic sea-view suites – our Family Staterooms, right at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea. There are eight of them in total and we’ll be refurbishing them shortly too. Stay tuned to our blog to be the first to learn all about their exciting makeover and when they’ll be available to book.
Look forward to seeing you soon,
